Heroin - Discography

I grew up in a household where I was constantly exposed to the daily musical nerd rhetoric. Both of my parents are extremely talented classical musicians and this being the story of my childhood I was raised to be a classical musician at a very young age. Instead of studying music theory after school like I was supposed to be, I was using my leftover 60 cents from the soda I didn't get at lunchtime to bus with my friends to the record stores a few miles down Mill Avenue to spend my parents money on records. This was a common youthful adventure which eventually came to an end when we decided we'd rather spend money on beer.

A lot of people don't understand my mentality on punk rock. I think Heroin is one of the worst bands I have ever heard. I was trained to play concertos with symphony orchestras, not crappy power chords to the same monotonous punk beat. Maybe that makes me an overly condescending music snob in worst of ways, but there is no passion in playing music written in the 18th century by dead dorks who wrote in the key of G flat because they wanted to make my life a living hell. Heroin is probably the most disgusting bands I have ever listened to. Heroin is emotion. It might be crappy, but that is genuine.

Mouth of Man - Demo

Remember the first time you put a Heroin record on your turntable? We have been blessed with a new band in Phoenix. Mouth of Man is based in Glendale, Arizona. The band came out of nowhere and has been playing constantly in the Phoenix area. With the self release of their first three song demo, scosand and company will be releasing a 7 song Cassette Tape just in time for Christmas. Be on the lookout for late December dates in California and Nevada.

Fad Gadget

This is what Christmas is all about.

"As Fad Gadget, his music was characterized by a distinctive use of synthesizers in conjunction with sounds of found objects, including drills and electric razors. His bleak, sarcastic, and darkly humorous lyrics, often layered in meaning and discussing subjects such as machinery, building construction, human sexuality, and physical violence, were sung in a droning monotone voice.

Fad Gadget was known for his confrontational live performances, which included Tovey covering himself in tar and feathers, leaping into the audience, and playing instruments with his head. Tovey was particularly infamous for spreading his naked body in shaving cream onstage, an image of which is depicted on the cover of The Best of Fad Gadget. Sounds magazine described him as '...the bumbling but talented Dr. Who of electro-pop'.

something a little different.

Some years ago my older brother started getting interested in all of this strange dark-ambient / organic industrial music. I was in high school at the time and all I really wanted to do was listen Sonic Youth and impress skinny pale girls. Coph Nia was one of the first acts I took any interest in. I'm not sure if it's because of this reoccurring theme of Satanism/Occultism that stuck with me, but here is some of the best music in the genre in my opinion. The first EP, Holy War, is 4 songs - 26 minutes of dark layered ambience and this almost tribal kind of satanic ritualistic drumming.

The lyrics from Opus 77 off of the 'That Which Remains' full length comes from Aleister Crowley. If you want you read it you can go here, If you want to learn more about Aleister Crowley you can go here. 'That Which Remains' is 8 songs which is runs little over an hour. The songs include spoken word (english and latin), classical guitar parts, soft vocals, and hardly any drumming compared to the EP. Both of these were released on the Swedish label Cold Meat Industry.

I recommend it if you like Desiderii Marginis, Raison d'être, In Slaughter Natives, or want to listen to something different than crappy pop punk or doom metal. Also - if you download this, DO NOT expect it to be something that you can cling onto like Lil' Wayne. This music takes patience to understand. Aldenon Sartorial creates breathing space, so take that and smoke.

i don't expect anybody to get through all of this.

I absolutely love Venetian Snares and I finally got an opportunity to go and see him for the first time. You have to understand that in Phoenix we don't have a very good scene for the kind of deep experimental jungle hole that Aaron Funk has been digging for the past however many years. Probably the most fun I have ever had at a concert. So in honor of the man who had me dancing for 2 hours straight with strange people I've never met, I give you the post of all posts...

Age Sixteen - Spring 2008 Demo

A little over a month ago I received an e-mail from this guy named Justin. He asked if I would put up some material from his band up on the blog. Lots of horrible bands add me on myspace or e-mail me and ask for an update on the blog which I usually ignore. I kind of ignored Justin's e-mail until yesterday when I actually downloaded this. I love it. Sort of reminds me of I Have Dreams if you take away the forbidden beats/cheese breakdowns and add better song writing. Download this.
